Vedic Chetana Shivir
‘The Vedas are our most ancient teachers. They are still teaching us today how to meet the demands of the changing times. They prepare us for any time, building in us those values that are everlastingly the strength and soul of our lives.’
This message came alive in the Vedic Chetana Shivir at D.A.V Public School, East of Loni Road, Delhi. It was organized for one week, from 13th May to 17th May, 2013. The Primary wing of the school, during this week, celebrated the richness of the vedic teachings in the form of a wide range of activities. In their own unique ways, these activities not only connected our students & staff to their cultural roots but also instilled into the routine system of education a healthy atmosphere of joy & purity. The process of purification began with a hawan every morning with the auspicious chanting of the vedic mantras. It set in an aura of piety & dedication to divinity in all that we do, seeking the blessings of the supreme lord. The students sang bhajans & recited shlokas. They performed a skit on the inspiring lives of our vedic gurus & teachers.
Students were shown a PPT & a documentary on these great lives that move our souls easily to noble thoughts & deeds. Students also presented a role play, made greeting cards with the auspicious ‘OM’ on them. Badges with ‘OM’ made with handmade paper were distributed among staff & students. The activities came to an end each day with distribution of the holy Prashad to everyone in the school. The shivir awakened in all of us a new light & spirit to live an enlightened life full of a sense of dignity & purpose, taking a definite direction. It also made us once more aware of our rich past & its relevance to our present & future.
